L’Apologie du Prince Charmant met en scène la construction sociale du genre à travers les contes de Disney. La Princesse y est belle, passive, et dans l’attente éternelle de son Prince Charmant; lui tout aussi beau, fort, loyal et parfait, arrivant pour la délivrer. Dans cette co-création, Julia Barrette-Laperrière et Sébastien Provencher s’amusent avec les frontières de la représentation, alliant danse, discours et performance dans une esthétique où le beau se mélange à l’absurde, où le ‘’cheap’’ fait office de sacré et le Dollarama tient lieu de temple.

One Day my Prince Will Come is a choreographic proposition from Julia Barrette-Laperrière and Sébastien Provencher that explores the social construction of gender through the use of Disney fairy-tales. The Princess is beautiful, passive, and eternally waiting for her Prince Charming. Always on time to save her, he is just as beautiful, strong, loyal and perfect. In this collaborative work, the performers expose the feminine and masculine stereotypes of our collective imagination, only to better deconstruct and question them. The piece is supported by an extravagant soundtrack composed of Disney hits, in an esthetic where the beautiful and the absurd meet, where the cheap is sacred, and the dollar store becomes a wholy temple.
